Today in math we discussed symmetry and found lines of symmetry in many objects!
In science we talked about water conservation and had a general review of this Unit with a question and answer session.
We practiced making our own sentences with our spelling words. That's 15 sentences, way to go!
Hi parents,
So this week we have been advancing on the following subjects:
Language Arts: Learning about how we change verb forms according to pronouns or the time. We practiced writing verbs in the simple past tense (-ed) and adding -s to the end of a verb when speaking of one person (except for I) in the present tense.
Math: Learning how to flip, turn or slide objects and shapes. We have also learned about patterns, number patterns or shape and color ones. We have created our own patterns and learned how to recognize pattern units. Today we will begin learning and understanding what is symmetry and how to identify symmetrical objects.
Science and Social Studies: Both these subjects are overlapping this week, as we learning what are Earths natural resources and how we use and why we should conserve them. We worked on a special Resources packet the kids should have taken home to read to you. They should be able to understand what natural resources are and how we utilize them. Also understand the composition and importance of soil, as well as the properties of rocks and soil (colors, shapes, sizes and textures). We have been reinforcing these themes by visiting our gardens and going on rock searches outside. We are also discussing water, where it is found and how we use it, as well as how we can conserve it. We will be having a Science assessment on Tuesday of next week, so they will be taking their books home tomorrow to review on the weekend Unit 6: Earth' s Resources. The Social Studies assessment will be in an in class project on different ways we can conserve natural resources, they will be presenting their ideas and knowledge in groups.
Phonics: We are still practicing and focusing on the long vowel sounds. I am very happy with the improvements in reading all your children have made this past semester, as they can now even recognize the difference between short and long vowel sounds. We will be placing more emphasis on our writing skills this semester.
