Hello parents,
Hope you are having a great week! This is what we did in Grade 1 today:
Language Arts: Discussed how we can write a new fiction story. Since we wrote a non fiction story last week, we will write a fiction one this week following the writing process steps we have been learning about. So far our brainstorming activity led s to choose a minion as a main character!
Math: Today we learned bout how we convert a tally graph, or pictograph into a bar graph. We discussed why it was easier to read information from a bar graph as well.
Science: We learned that materials are what objects are made of. We also classified them as human made or natural. Examples of human made: plastic, glass and concrete. Examples of natural: wood, wool, cotton and soil. The kids will have a small quiz on this Friday.
We have been finishing and reviewing some of the exams. They will be sent to you tomorrow in their folders, with some other work done in the quarter. Please sign the folder and send it all back, it will be give to you as a packet at the end of the school year.
Homework: Two Math sheets 4.1 Tally Charts Practice. Write 3 more sentences with spelling words. The grade 5 class came to visit us last period and were helping their buddies with some of the homework, so some of them may have it done already.
We sent home registration for Kaohsiung Spelling Bee if any one is interested in signing up. I would like to kindly remind you I am still collecting money and permission slips for the field trip coming up. I am also still collecting preferences for electives of the second quarter, they will begin Friday of next week.
It has come to my attention that some parents might have different expectation for the year, or questions about books or homework, please feel free to schedule a meeting with me at any time, you can contact me through Line, email (phyllislopez@hotmail.com) or Dojo. If you would like a class meeting to touch on some of these issues as a team, that would be great too. I think if we work together and keep communication open we can have a great year!
Have a wonderful night,
Ms. Lopez
