Happy Friday to All

Dear parents,
We have had a terrific second week of school! First grade is doing so well! Today we worked on some special projects:

We wrote about the book we are reading this week from the library. Everyone wrote adjectives describing the stories and drew pictures to represent them.

Kids had PE class with Mr. Yanna, they played Monster Tag and talked about balance.

In Math class we completed the Chapter 1 assessment, I will be giving you their test back tomorrow during the Parent Teacher meetings, if you are unable to attend, I will send their folder home with it on Monday.

In computer class today with Ms. Valde, they learned about coloring by number on the computer.

Today we worked on a special project where we talked and shared about ourselves and our families with partners, we made big posters talking about our lives.

Today is the first day of Extra Curricular Activities!

Homework : Oral Book Report Read your library book or any book you'd like and Monday you will tell us about the story you read. Who was in it? What happened? How did it finish? Did you like it?

I am very excited to meet all of you tomorrow at our Open House!

Hi all!

Here is a quick recap of our day:

Cristian Living: Students had their first class of CL today and met Father Prudencio, they had a great time with him while drawing pictures of their families and  talking about themselves to get to know one and other.

Math: We reviewed for our chapter 1 test tomorrow, solved many problems on the board and in our books. I remind you the word problems will be read together but the answer must be found on their own.

Reading/Phonics: Today in phonics we began identifying medial consonant sounds, unscrambled familiar words and worked on our Phonics workbooks. Everyone seems to be advancing at a good pace :)

Week 2 of Music class with Ms. Ng !

Science: We began out "We are Scientist" booklet. We will be adding worksheets and activities to the book as we complete tasks that show we can use our inquiry skills. Today we worked on classifying and communicating, Putting things into groups.

Mr. Tung has included a note in their assignment Books today, please look for it or send me a message if you don't find it.

Homework: Language Arts - WBP pg 3 and 4 (This is the workbook with a panda on the cover).

This year for student council there will be a representative of each grade, today we discussed what voting was and did it in our classroom. Our new representative for the 1st grade is Jonathan Chen.

Hello parents!

Today in Grade 1:

Language Arts: Wrote sentences together and began learning about the naming parts of a sentence, the subject or nouns. We finished some pages in our Language Arts Work Book.

There will be a math assessment (quiz) on Friday on the skills learned in Chapter 1. For assessment on the word problems, we will read the problem together, and talk about how to solve it, but the students will have to find the answer on their own.

House groups eat lunch together and gain and lose points for behavior, however first grade can continue to eat lunch together for the next quarter. Here is your child's name and their house name and color.

Drinking water & Brushing teeth

Dear parents, it has been brought to my attention that the children may not be drinking enough water during class time and that they need more time and a space for teeth brushing.

I encourage students to have their water bottles under their desks and to refill their bottles every period. Please let me know if you would like me to keep a better watch on an individual who might not be drinking enough.

In first grade its optional for children to brush their teeth after a meal, it’s not done collectively. However, If you would like I can provide a space in the classroom for the students to put their mug and toothbrush. I will give them some extra time as well.  Just send it in on Monday.

I understand how important both these issues are to you! Please just let me know if your child needs that extra push through out the day.

If you have any other concerns please feel free to bring them up so we can discuss together. I appreciate everyone's support for a great school year!
