Hello everyone, hope all is well, here is a recap of our day:
Math: Tally charts, bar graphs, reading and decoding data. Finished some coloring blocks to further practice basic addition and subtraction skills.
Language Arts: Continued to write our Class story, reviewed our web of ideas and outlined the sequence of our story.
Reading: Began using the short o. Learned about its sound and rules when reading. We now have examples of long e, short a, short, i short u, and now short o.
Science: Understanding the Design Process and its steps. (1. find a problem, 2. Plan and build, 3.Test and improve, 4. Redesign 5. Communicate) Completed exercises in our book for the lesson.
Today I am only sending home the Social Studies review, there was a problem printing out Phonics so I will have it ready for tomorrow.
Homework: Science Fusion pg. 57 and 58
Study for Spelling Quiz!

Wednesday Sept. 23rd 2015
Hello parents!
Since I gave the study guides (reviews for the exams) late yesterday, we went through them today and completed some exercises to help them better prepare for their exams. Today they will be going back home with their reviews and they should stay at home to practice and read at home. I encourage you to study together or have them talk about or explain concepts in the reviews.
Social Studies: We reviewed key words for the new unit including community, leaders, president, flag, government, mayor and countries. We read lesson 2 in the new unit titled: Who are our leaders?
Science: Further discussed what are engineers and how they use the design process for creating new things and helping communities. We completed an interactive activity on the computer where we did come examples of the design process using a catapult. We also reviewed our study guide for the exam. More science terms will be sent home Friday to add to the review, based on Unit 2.
Math: Completed our worksheets on tally charts and bar graphs.
Tomorrow I will be sending the last 2 reviews (Phonics and Social Studies) so they can review. I will have the students take home their Health books as well so it can stay at home to review.
Homework for tonight: Read the science review guide with your parents or with someone who helps you do your homework. Complete Language Arts practice book pages 17, 18 and 20.

Hello parents!
Here is a recap of our day:
Language Arts: Worked on our class story, chose the topic: A day in PE Class and discussed the 4 steps in the writing process. Prewrite, draft, revise and publish. We also started a web of ideas to write our story.
Math: Began discussing charts, data and learned about Tally charts. Some students did their own tally charts, and others filled put the example chart in the book. We will be taking surveys and making bar graphs for this next chapter in math class.
Social studies: Continued reading about citizens, countries, listed laws, and talked about the importance of keeping laws in a community.
Science: Introduction to How Engineers Work. spoke about what engineers do, their design process and the different types of engineers that help create things everyday. Civil, robotics, electronic, and mechanical engineers.
Homework: Students have a math packet all about surveys and charts. Their assignment is only the first 2 pages, Garden flowers and Zoo animals. Students will also be taking home their reviews for the first three Quarter Exams, math, language arts and science. It is in their folders.

Assembly: We talked more about our Houses, the new system, how you can earn points and why they can be deducted. We also separated into House groups and did fun team building activities.
Reading: Copied and discussed new spelling words, we are up to 12 spelling words this week. 6 with /oa/ spelling and 6 with /ow/ spelling:

Friday, Sept. 18th 2015
Hello parents, this has been a busy Friday! I hope you are all well.
Today we completed our science unit 1 assessment as well as our weekly spelling quiz. Next week I will be sending email with some grades and important information about the quarter exams which will be the week of October 29th-2nd. We will be having exams for all the major subjects as well as the special subjects. I will be sending home study guides by the end of next week for students to review at home with their parents. I will also be contacting parents through your children's assignment book in order to see if we can set up a meeting if needed for a quarter review. Not all students will need this.
Reminder: Monday we will have Math Chapter 3 assessment (Subtraction) Homework is 4 math worksheets to practice.

Language arts: Reviewed independent sentence practice.
Social Studies: Finished our Assessment and reviewed all the right answers. Talked about what we learned, now that in first grade we must take tests.
Science: Completed the third part of our review for the assessment tomorrow.
Math: Worked on basic addition and subtraction problems with coloring squares.
Homework: Today kids take home their complete Science review, they must go over the questions and make sure they learn them for the assessment tomorrow. Study for weekly spelling quiz.

Hello to everyone! Today we worked on the following things:
Language Arts: We are beginning a new unit where we write a short story as a class, so today was a small introduction to the elements we can find in a story, such as title, author, characters and setting.
Math: Continued with our Chapter in subtraction, today we focused on vertical subtraction.
Phonics: Reviewed the short /a/ and short /i/ sound, introduced the short /u/ sound and reviewed the rules for pronouncing the short vowel in words.
Social Studies: Completed Part I of our Unit 1 test in partners, they made a small outline of the Part 2 assessment.
Science: Completed another page for Assessment Review of Unit 1: How to Scientist Work, assessment is still scheduled for Friday. Please let me know if you have any question on the assessment, tomorrow they will be taking home the complete Review to study.
I know some student have finished their reading logs, I will give them new RL sheets tomorrow.
