Hello parents, just some quick reminders:
Family Lunch and Sports Day on Tuesday January 19th, Grade 1 and 2 are in charge of bringing side dishes and salads for the potluck. I have also sent home the information sheet for Lunch Fees this semester, please sign up and send money in envelope with your child's name. Tomorrow is the second Friday of the month and so kids do not have to wear their uniforms, however I recommend they come to school in PE uniform since it is early in the morning and then change into their casual clothes.
Today in class we...
Language arts: Practiced
mixing singular and plural nouns with the correct verb form in sentences inside their LA Work Book Plus.
Math: More position words and object finding in grids practice.
Phonics: Review all short vowel sounds, practice long A and long U sounds and words in phonics book.
Science: We visited our garden and saw our plants progress. We also took he opportunity to drop in some organic materials (orange peels in our garden) and learned about how the organic waste can help give nutrients to the soil and how soil give those nutrients to our crops and plants. We learned that soil is made of small piece of rocks and materials that were once living things (like animals and other plants).
Garden progress: Our lettuce, cilantro and onions are so big!

Spelling: Tomorrow is spelling quiz, please study!

Today we.....
Math: More position words! Drew objects according to their position in the pictures and practiced telling our right side from our left side, this can be tricky!
Language Arts: Review of nouns and introduction to verbs. We can recognize and identify verbs but we will be working on the different tenses of verbs and their positions within a sentence.
Social Studies: Predictions! Why is it important to make predictions? How can predicting weather behaviors and patterns help us everyday ?
Science: More on Natural Resources! What they are, how to use them and why we should conserve them!
Today I am sending home their new electives sheet for quarter 3, please fill out your three preferences and send it back as soon as possible.

Welcome back dear parents and students! Hope everyone had a holly and jolly Christmas vacation and New Years celebrations! I wish great blessing on each of your homes and family, and I am really happy to have your children back for a new year of learning and having fun!
So to start of 2nd semester here is what we did today:
- Welcome back assembly
- Language Arts: Copied new spelling words and made sentences with them. The first 8 words are words with the controlled R sound, and the last ones are words pertaining to our science and math lessons:

- Math: Began our new chapter on position words. Understanding left, right, above, inside, under etc. How to use these words to describe the location of an object. This is a pre topic before learning about grids and how we can use them.

Why is it important to save our resources? Today we discussed water, plants, trees, air and fossil fuels as resources we use.
