Hi parents!
Today in Grade 1 we....
Language Arts: We are still practicing and trying to perfect the art of writing a paragraph! We wrote descriptive paragraphs about our best friends and drew pictures to share with the class. These will be corrected and sent home for them to rewrite with corrections.
Math: Reviewed what fractions meant and homework. Tomorrow we do what are probabilities and we will have a math assessment for Chapter 9 on Tuesday February 16 when we return from Chinese New Year break.
Science: What are weather patterns and what is the 4 seasons cycle? Interactive learning from our online resources!
Homework:
Science: Complete Word Search and read "June Bacon-Bercey" on page 271
Language Arts: Rewrite corrected paragraph
Important information:
Friday's Chinese New Year Show: Please provide your child with a white long sleeve shirt so they can wear under their dance costume.
Happy Birthday Jonathan! We had fun eating pizza and watching Jonathan's favorite show!
Yesterday's field trip was a great success and so much fun! The kids had a wonderful time learning about drums, their history and why its so important to Chinese culture. We got to see a special performance in the remodeled sugar refinery and tour its antique looking installations. We had lunch while listening to some people rehearse in the room next door, and got to see some really old and different drums from Chinese history. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Hi everyone!
So today we did a lot of reviewing for our Language Arts exam on Monday that included:
What are nouns?
What are proper nouns?
What are pronouns?
What are verbs?
How do we use: 'is' 'are' 'were' was; in sentences
What are complete sentences?
What are contraction?
What is an apostrophe?
In math we have learned what is means to talk about a whole number and how fractions are when this whole number is broken up into equal pieces. Students are now familiar with recognizing 1/2 , 1/3 and 1/4's. The important aspect of this unit is students comprehension when speaking of what a fraction means.
Science: Began our investigative research, we will observe and record weather for 5 days and predict what the weather will be like on day 6.
Homework:
Spelling: Study for spelling quiz
Science: Brain Check
Apply Concepts pages 265-266
The kids had a great time with Ms. E yesterday! Here are some fun pictures of their Chalk Art:
