Hi everyone!

Today we had a busy morning with the KCPD (Kaohsiung City Police Department) paying us a visit to present safety tips to students. In math class we practiced reading time and daying half past as well as calculating time elapsed between activities.  We read some library book stores to focus on story elements and reading comprehension as well. We finanlized Unit 9: All About Matter in science with their assessment and had a quick introducgtion tot he new unit: Energy and Forces. 

Science Fair Info:

We have designated a group leader for Science Fair project and they have taken their science reports back home with notes for your groups to discuss. Leader only entails taking home the notes, participation is expected equally from all partners. All that is left is results and conclusions, you can send any of them in any time this week if you would like for it to be reviewed by me. We will dedicate Wednesday 27th to practicing our presenations in class, so please send in their project any time before that.

Hi everyone! We have had a busy and terrific day!

Today Mario visited us to help the kids make model rockets! We saw the reaction that is made when we mix vinegar and baking soda and creates air pressure to send a rocket off into the sky! 
We had to try a few times, but finally, we had success! We had a great time! He also brought us pizza and we had the kids do some show and tell time with him. :)

Science: We reviewed for our exam Unit 9: Matter. We talked about the main key words which include: properties, weight, temperature, mass, liquid, solid, gas, mixture, and dissolve.

Math: Understanding how to read a clock, new saying: It is half past…. Its is 30 minutes past…

Phonics: New words and vocabulary with the consonant digraph: -wr.

We began a new Math Chapter: Telling Time

Important  information for this week:

Tuesday - Rocket Building day with Mario (my husband) will come and help the kids build model rockets, they are also free to bring one item from home if they would like to present it for a"show and tell" session.

Wednesday: Science Unit 9 - Matter  Assessment


Thursday: Phonics exam, will include: hard vs. soft letters G and C. Consonant blends and digraph blends. 

Friday: Spelling Quiz

Hi everyone! These BUSY bee first graders have been up to a lot today!

Math: Chapter and unit review for exam tomorrow!

Language arts: Review for all of Unit 4 to begin unit 5 and new writing activities next week.

Phonics: Introduced new consonant digraph: kn. Used workds: knock, knight, knit, knock, know, known.

Science: Lesson 3 in Unit 9: Matter! How to take temperatures and record them to use them as properties. How different property in different matter can change.

Homework:

Reading: Reading comprehesion worksheets number 5-7 for Friday

Math: Count by 5's Maze worksheet

Today, Grade 1 did the following:

Math: Had a subtraction competition to reinforce subtraction skills, congrats to Luca for placing 1st! We also checked homework and began a small chapter review which we will complete tomorrow to get ready for Chapter 12 Test on Thursday.

Phonics: Introduction to Consonant Digraphs (2 letters that make a new sound, like sh and ch) and compared it to consonant blends. Reviewed when we use y as the long i sound and when we use it as the long e sound. We will be having a phonics assessment next week on Wednesday April 20th. 

Social Studies: Had a wonderful time hearing the class do their Family Tree presentations, we did not have enough time to complete all of them, but will resume tomorrow.

Hello everyone!

Today we focused on:

Math  - Solving word problems by identifying a pattern and choosing the correct operation to solve.

Phonics - Using the letter y as a vowel to produce the long e or long i sounds.

Social Studies - 2 Students who were ready today gave us their presentations of a family time tree! 

The spelling test will be this Friday.

Grade 1 will be sponsering mass this month, so we will be hosting mass this Friday 1st period. Please have kids come to school in regular uniform and bring their PE uniform to change later.   Thank you!

Hi everyone!

Welcome back, today has been a busy day for Grade 1, we:

Phonics - Introduces consonant blends with the letters r, l and s. Most of this weeks spelling words will be based of this phonics lesson and we reviewed what rhyming words are as well as identified them in various poems. 

Math: Counting by 2's and 5's. Differences between odd and even numbers. What are pairs?

Social Studies: learned about and analyzed situations to identify the cause and effect for each one. These are also terms for this weeks spelling words. Reviewed what is a timeline and all about Family Trees. Student shave a Family Tree assignment due for next Tuesday, as a presentation. 

Science: Everything is matter, and mass is how much space matter takes up. Identified three basic types of matter, liquid, solid and gasses. Learned about Polymer Scientist jobs.

You may go up to grandparents or anyone before that if you have the resources to do so, and talk a little about the different people who have been important in your life from your family tree.
