Hi everyone :)

Today we:

Math: Spent a lot of time reviewing basic addition facts, had math competitions and reviewed different strategies for adding quicker and remembering basic facts.

Science: Forces and motion. Understand that motion is movement, and speed is the measure of movement. That movement can go in different directions (such as back and forth or in a zig zag), that pulling or pushing objects needs a force which is what makes objects move. Force can determine or change an objects speed or direction.

Phonics: Focused on the rules we have already learned from Unit 5.

Homework:
Math: MPB 15.6 and 15.7
Science: Brain Check and Apply Concepts pages 277-278

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

Good afternoon everyone! Hope you enjoyed a nice long weekend! We are starting our final month of school, 20 days of school countdown until summer vacation starts!

Today has been very busy doing the following things:

Math: We are starting chapter 15 (addition and subtraction facts) where we will be working on doing math problems a little quicker and focusing on strategies for problem solving. We have skipped Chapter 14 since this chapter focuses on American currency, including cents that are not used in Taiwan.

Social Studies: Background information on The Discovery of the New World, Christopher Columbus, Pilgrims, Settlers, Native American Tribes, Thanksgiving Celebrations. Reviewed the terms cause and effects.

Spelling and Language: New spelling words for this week include: counting, choice, veteran, peaceful, route, heroes, force, quickly, slowly, dangerous, careful, wonderful, colorful, darkness. Spelling Quiz will be on Friday.

Important Information: Today I will be sending home the IOWA TESTS Results. There is a lot of information on these result sheets, I suggest the best way to analyze it it to search for the following:

On the TOP SQUARE labeled Tests, Scores and PERCENTILE RANKS look for GE (Grade Equivalent) and focus on COMPOSITE (on the very bottom), that will indicate what grade level they tested at. We are in Month 7 of Grade 1 when we took the exams, so at grade level would be 1.7, if your child's says 2.4 for example, it means they tested above in a Grade 2 Month 4 level. Our class average was tested at a 2.1 (Grade 2 Month 1). I would not worry if they are a few months above or under, this is normal. Please let me know if you would like to meet at sometime to further discuss these results.

Homework:
Math: MPB 15.1 and 15.2
Social Studies: AB page 54
Spelling: Write each word 3 times
