Monday December 7th 2015

Hello everyone,

 I hope you are all enjoying this nice cooler weather!I am updating you with Minor and Major exams today as well as sending Major Exam reviews home. This week there will be no homework as the kids will have to study for Chinese this week and can begin to use their study guides to study with mom or dad at home for major exams next week.The phonics review will be the only one which will be sent home Thursday as Id like to advance a little more in the Unit before we begin the review.Today I am also sending out a Reading Log Survey if you could please take a few moments to fill it out with your child and send it back to me.

Wednesday 12/16/15 - Field Trip in the morning and in the afternoon Student Council is offering tickets for a movie in the Auditorium at 2:00 pm, the cost is of 70NT.

Thursday 12/17/15 - Mass Rehearsal and Christmas Show Rehearsal in the morning. After lunch we will have a Christmas party in the classroom.The students will have in their assignment book a small snack or drink to bring for our party. 

Friday 12/18/45 - Christmas Show! Half Day, please pick up students no later than 11 if you can not be here for the show, as teacher and staff will be leaving the school grounds for a faculty lunch. Thank you!

Hello parents! Happy December!



Hope you are having great week. Today in Grade 1 we:

Completed our continents booklet, spoke more about each continent, where it is in reference to the equator and important facts about them as well. We also used new block shapes to count the number of faces, edges and corners on shapes such as cubes, cylinders, pyramids, spheres, rectangular prisms and cones. We continued with Unit 3 in Phonics and moved on the the Long i sound. We reviewed the long A and compared long vowel sounds to short vowel sounds. 

The field trip has been approved for Wednesday December 16th. We will be walking to the Kaohsiung Art Museum from school and the cost will be of NT 100.

This is a tentative schedule for special exams. Art will not be having one and Chinese test will be confirmed tomorrow.

Monday, November 30th, 2015



Hello everyone!

First I wanted to thank all the parents for coming and supporting G1 class for Language Festival, I like to think we finished on a good note last Thursday with the song Sugar, the kids were so excited! Also special thanks to all parents who brought snacks and new food to share with everyone, that’s what Thanksgiving is all about!

Today in Grade 1 we:

Math: Learned about corners and sides, compared shapes, colors and sizes and wrote our own problems for finding the hidden shapes!

 Language arts: Copied new spelling words for the spelling quiz this Friday and discussed what they were.

Social Studies: Began discussing Land forms in class (mountains, rivers, islands, valleys, hills, lakes). We will be covering 7 continents, cardinal directions, 5 oceans and all the different landmasses this week in SS class with fun activities and worksheets.

Homework:
Write each word three times in your spelling tab.

Announcements:

Exam week for second quarter will be December 7th -15th
 
Minor exams (Health, Christian Living, Art, Computer, Chinese, Music and PE) will be December 7th-11th

Major Exams (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and Reading) will be December 14th- 15th they will be half days.

December 16th we are finalizing details for our Q2 Field Trip, as soon as it is approved by Administration I will be sending home all the details. 

December 17th rehearsal for Christmas show in the morning and classroom Christmas parties.

December 18th Christmas mass and show, also a half day

I will be sending home all reviews for Major exams on Monday December 7th. We will be reviewing in class that week for finals. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Hello parents!


Today I will be sharing again with you some important information for tomorrow. 

What to bring: A bag with their change of clothes and a snack.

8:30-9:40am : Mass -  Please have your child be on time and in their complete regular uniform. 

9:40-10:00 am: Break time - Kids will eat their snack in the classroom and change into their clothes for their performance. We will also take the time to quickly practice once more.

10:10-11:45: Language Festival in the auditorium

11:45-12:30: Thanksgiving Family Lunch 

If you are not able to come, please make sure to pick up your child at 12:45, as it is a half day and staff will be leaving at that time as well.Thank you in advance for your support!

The kids will not have homework for tonight or this weekend, however I encourage they fill out some Reading Log slots by reading their Science book Unit 4 with you at home, all about Plants. We will be having an assessment on this next week.

Thanksgiving Week :) Monday, Nov. 23, 2015

Hello everyone! 

I hope you had an enjoyable weekend. Since this will be a short week (Only Monday - Wednesday and Thursday events all day) we will not be having a spelling test. I encourage all student to work on filling out some Reading Log times and reviewing their old spelling words. I'd like to correct pick up time for kids on Thursday if you will not attend the lunch is not 11:30 but 12:40. We have started today our new math chapter 7 on shapes, algebra and fractions! We have also began learning rules for long A sounds and spelling. Congratulations to Julia for winning Angel of the Week here in DISK!

Friday, November 20th, 2015



Dear parents,

I have a few important announcements for next week:

Homework for Monday: Bring in 1, 2 or more old magazines we can cut up for a class art project.

Thursday, Nov. 26th:

Students will come in proper uniform Thursday morning for Mass in the morning.

After Mass: Students will change and quickly rehearse their song. Please have students bring in an extra outfit to make their performance more colorful, we will change after mass. I ask they bring in bright colors; pink would go best with our “Sugar Sweet Candy land” theme.

 Language Festival: will start at 10 am, we hope you can all make it.

Thanksgiving Lunch: As soon as Language Festival is over, we will head to our Family Thanksgiving Lunch where we will get to share food and give thanks for so many blessings! If you are attending and have not sent in your confirmation form, please let me know to inform the office.

It is a Half Day if you will not be here with us for the lunch please make sure to pick up your children at 11:30.

Wednesday and Thursday Nov. 18/19th Recaps

This week in Grade 1 we have seen and reviewed the following things:

Language arts: Finished our Unit Assessment on nouns, pronouns and special nouns (proper nouns). We have also wrapped up the sentences and the main rules. Kids will now start working on understanding, identifying and writing their own personal narrative. 

Reading: Wrapped up Short vowels with a Unit 3 assessment. So much progress in reading these months, I am so proud of all the students improvements. We began reading a story called "The Tree". We are also discussing how to find the following elements in a story: title, author, illustrator, characters, setting and plot.

Math: We have wrapped up basic addition and subtraction strategies for numbers under 10. We will now begin a geometry chapter, shapes, sides, angles, understanding symmetry and more! Coming up tomorrow to last a few weeks. 

Social Studies: Introduction to land formations and where we live. Began learning what is an address, and how specific and broad a place we can use to describe where we live.  We will be learning the 7 continents and 5 oceans and how to locate them on a map the following week.

Science: Plants, their parts, their functions and how they differ!

Spelling: Study for spelling quiz tomorrow!
