Hi parents,
It’s getting close to an important event in the school year:  Science Fair!
The Science Fair will be held on April 28th -29th this year, and so I would like for students to begin thinking about what experiment they would like to do and who they would like to work with. This is something they will have to do every year in school, and as this is their first one, I would like their experience to be a fun and positive one! In class I will give some time for working and discussing our experiments, however it is something they will have to do outside of school and work on for a few weeks.  Students will receive a Science Fair packet and Rubric in order to help guide you.
First step will be to fill out this form and return by: Tuesday, February 16th
Name of your child: __________________________________________________________
Students may work in groups of 2 or 3, please keep in mind they will have to meet outside of school in order to prepare project. Partner they will be working with: __________________________________________________________________________
My experiment will be: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hi parents!
Today in Grade 1 we....

Math: Reviewed what fractions meant and homework. Tomorrow we do what are probabilities and we will have a math assessment for Chapter 9 on Tuesday February 16 when we return from Chinese New Year break.

Science: What are weather patterns and what is the 4 seasons cycle? Interactive learning from our online resources!

Homework:
Science: Complete Word Search and read "June Bacon-Bercey" on page 271
Language Arts: Rewrite corrected paragraph

Important information:
Friday's Chinese New Year Show: Please provide your child with a white long sleeve shirt so they can wear  under their dance costume.

Happy Birthday Jonathan! We had fun eating pizza and watching Jonathan's favorite show!

Yesterday's field trip was a great success and so much fun! The kids had a wonderful time learning about drums, their history and why its so important to Chinese culture. We got to see a special performance in the remodeled sugar refinery and tour its antique looking installations. We had lunch while listening to some people rehearse in the room next door, and got to see some really old and different drums from Chinese history. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
