Tuesday, March 15th, 2016

Hi everyone!

Today has been a busy day as kids spent the morning doing activities in the gym and reflecting on the stations of the cross in order to prepare for Easter week. This is a very important time in the Catholic calendar and so it is a great opportunity for us to teach kids about important human values such as forgiveness, mercy, caring and solidarity. This year the Pope (leader of the catholic church) has declared it the year of "Mercy" which has been the theme for today's activities.

Reminder: Next week is Easter Week, we will be on Holiday and regular classes resume on Monday 28th.

Later in the day we completed or first portion of the IOWA Tests. I will be sending home their quarter exams as well as Quarter 3 Portfolios on Friday, as always please look over it and send back signed to school on the following Monday.

Homework for tonight:
Social Studies: AB pg. 47-48

Hi parents,
We have finally finished with exams and are really excited about 4th quarter and final quarter. So many things still left to do and learn!

Today we:

Reviewed our exams and corrected them to find our mistakes and earned some bonus points.

Began an introduction to Chapter 10 Math: Number Orders. Completed exercises in our books and took turns calling out numbers and using the words "right before" "in between" and "right after"

We practiced counting syllables and vowels in words. We separated words into syllables and added new vocabulary to our phonics booklets.

In social studies we talked about what "history" meant and different ways we measure time. Read an excerpt called "Understanding our Past".

Thank you to Julia who brought these great film cards so we were able to watch the watch the eclipse this morning as well as watch a live recording from Borneo where we could watch the Total eclipse! Kids loved it!

Hello parents!

This week we have been working on writing our first fiction story. We have gone through all the process, such as brain storming, planing, drafting, editing and now they have completed their final drafts! I am very proud of their hard work on this. Today we focused on Science Unit 8, we pretended to be the galaxy and everyone played a role to understand these important facts:
  • The sun does not move.
  • The planets revolve around the sun.
  • Earth takes 1 year to go around the sun.
  • The moon goes around the Earth.
  • The Earth is always spinning.
Important Reminders!

Tuesday and Monday will be Quarter Exam days
Dismissal will be at 11:45, please pick up your children by then.
If you have any questions regarding exams, please feel free to write to me this weekend.Kids will take home Science and Social Studies books in case they would like to review. Have a great weekend!
